Volunteer to Help Project Wombat
There are a number of ways to help out with Project Wombat. (Beyond, of course, subscribing to a list and answering questions, which is helpful in its own right.) To volunteer, send a message to volunteer@project-wombat.org
- Archive Editors
- We are attempting to bring the Stumpers archives into Project Wombat. Before we can do this, we need to do certain things to clean them up. We have very specific instructions on what to do, and you can request an archive file to work on.
- Moderators
- Almost anyone can moderate Project-Wombat-Open. To be a moderator of either of the other two lists requires consent of the Project Wombat Advisory Board, and will probably be offered only to people who have proven themselves by past performance.
To moderate requires only a willingness to use a slightly clunky web interface. Instructions will be available soon.
- Proofreaders and Indexers
- Part of the point of Project Wombat is to make sure that the archives are useful. If someone wants to go back and look for an answer, it should be as easy as possible. Therefore, misspelled words are a problem. We need people who note typos in messages, so that the archives can be corrected.
- In addition to that, there are frequently questions about words with indeterminate spellings, or concepts with more than one name. We would like, in the FM archives, to include extra search terms at the bottom of each message, so that searches can suggest other terms as they go along.
- While this job may not seem glamourous, it is arguably both the most difficult and the most scholarly of them all.
